Move Your Phi't

Alpha Phi is partnering with Alpha Tau Omega to host our first ever ‘Move Your Phi’t for Hopeful Hearts’ 5K run/walk on April 4. Move Your Phi’t will benefit the Hope Center as well as The Alpha Phi Foundation, which promotes cardiac care & research for women. The walk will last four hours and we are holding it on the track behind the Merillat, our sport and fitness center. We will also have games and relays during the walk to encourage the participants. Any money we raise will be split between the two Greek organizations. It should be a lot of fun and a new tradition to carry on in the following years!

Greek Formals

I’m getting really excited because it’s that time of the year for Formals!! Some of the Greek organizations participate in annual formals for their chapter. Theta Chi just had theirs in Windsor (Canada) last weekend. The Chi Omegas also recently attended a lovely formal for their chapter. It’s basically just a time to get together with your brothers or sisters, dress in your best and dance. Being in Alpha Phi, ours is this Saturday night. For our Alpha Phi formal we are going to Jackson, MI and have a great dinner, desserts and dancing afterwards. It’s always in the spring and is kind of the last major event for the Phi’s to attend. This will be my last formal so I’m sad but very excited to create more amazing memories with my sisters!

Little Big Town Concert

Last night was the Little Big Town and Zac Brown Band concert. Erin, I, and a few other good friends were able to attend the concert.

Little Big Town

Zac Brown Band

We all were able to get in for free because we are AC students. The doors opened at 7, and the show started at 8. Before Little Big Town another band called the Zac Brown Band played. They had some great songs, in fact my buddy bought their CD! They played about 7 songs then soon after LBT came on stage. My friends and I sang along with them all night. Then for their last song they played Boondocks and rocked the place. The crowd wanted an encore so they came back out and played not one song, but two more. It was a great night and I am thrilled that AC put something on of this magnitude for us students. I think everyone there would agree it was an awesome night, and fun was had by all! --- Dennis

Spring Break Recaps!

Lisa and I went on spring break together with two of our other friends. To save on money we decided to make a road trip and drive to Florida. We stayed at a condo of a family that is close to one of my friends to also save on money. The first day we got to Siesta Key it was 87 degrees! We laid out either on the beach or by the pool everyday! I never did go swimming in the gulf because the water was still way too cold but the blue water and white sand was definitely beautiful to look at! It’s always hard to come back to classes after a week of lying on a beach so right now I am just trying to get back into the swing of things.

Spring Break! What an amazing time of the year. No tests, no classes, no schedule! For the first time in my life I went on a spring break trip. I and about eight other close friends jumped in two cars and drove 15 hours to Panama City Beach, Florida. The weather was not as warm as I would have liked, but anything beats the freezing temperatures of Michigan. The guys and I spent our time enjoying the sun, playing some competitive volleyball, and enjoying the nightlife. On top of all of that was the great food Panama City Beach gave. One night we had all went to Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville. It was a great place and it offered a great environment. In the end however we had to leave. We left on Friday only to make it home early Saturday morning to rain and cold temperatures.

Hey all - it's Kourtney! So for my spring break I slept all day every day back home in Detroit, Mich. It was great to just relax and have a week to myself. Now back to the books...

Well I just had my senior year spring break and it was great!! Three of my good friends and I took a road trip down south. We first left for Alabama to stop and see a friend that I made while studying abroad over the summer in London. After AL we continued down to Florida to Siesta Key. We had wonderful weather…well I guess anything is better compared to Michigan winters. We got a lot of sun laying out, playing volleyball, walking along the beach, swimming etc. After about 6 days in Siesta we headed back up to North Carolina. There we did some amazing shopping and went to a baseball game (again wonderful warm weather!!) All and all it was a trip I won’t forget.

Midterms!

Sorry this is a little late guys, but I wanted to give a quick recap of midterms that were a little over a week ago....

Last week was midterms, and I had to take five tests! Ahhhhhh!! Two of them were in physical geology, one in the lecture portion of the class, and the other in the laboratory portion. Later that day was a French 2 exam, Oui Oui. One day later was the historical geology lecture exam. Then to finish off that hectic week was a microbiology exam. Microbiology is the study of microorganisms that are unicellular. Microbiology has many practical applications in today’s world. The lab portion of this class is also very interesting. The class grows cultures of different bacteria using different methods. The threat of contamination among the cultures is very high, so aseptic techniques must be used. These techniques prevent dust particles or any other contaminants to enter the area of growth, thus distorting the results. Needless to say I am definitely looking forward to spring break this upcoming week. I and a couple of my buddies of mine will be driving down to Panama City Beach this Friday. It should be a great time, and I am sure some memories will be made.
